In a futuristic dystopian era, humanity is governed by "Eden," a sophisticated neural network that ensures social harmony by monitoring and regulating physiological and emotional states. However, approximately one percent of the population is unable to interface with this system. Deemed "The Defective" (or Imperfections), these outcasts are banished to the lawless fringes of the Eighth Galaxy, living in squalor and neglected by the Interstellar Union.

The story begins when the formidable General Lin Jingheng, commander of the Silver Fortress, is framed for treason and presumed dead. In reality, he escapes to the Eighth Galaxy, where he encounters the brilliant and irrepressibly optimistic Lu Bixing, a young man attempting to build a school for the "defective" youth. When interstellar pirates launch a brutal invasion that threatens the fragile peace of the slums, the cold, calculating soldier and the idealistic dreamer must unite. Together, they lead a ragtag army of outcasts to expose the dark secrets behind Eden and fight for the right of every human—imperfect or not—to possess their own mind.
